Our pink entryway makeover

I did it, guys! I added some pink in my life. When BEHR® reached out to partner again about a color project, I couldn’t be more thrilled. You know I love color challenges, but for me, color needs to add a statement, to make an impact. Last year, I went for a bold and deep green for my bedroom, and this year, BEHR gave me the challenge of choosing one of their 2018 Trend colors, one of which was Positively Pink T18-01, a soft, nostalgic pink, with apricot hues. Now, that’s a challenge!

We recently moved into a beautiful Victorian top floor apartment in the Lower Haight/ Hayes neighborhood in San Francisco. The apartment has a lot of natural light, but the only area of the house missing a bit of it is our entryway. It’s been sadly uncared for since we moved, sort of a traffic flow obligated passage from the stairs leading to the street to the heart of our home. I thought this was the perfect spot to add a pop of color – as the rest of the house is all white, or wallpapered. I felt that the foyer could benefit from a “boudoir” effect. Enter Positively Pink, a beautiful, soft, nostalgic shade of pink, and a big color trend for 2018.

Without going too political on this blog, which I know many of you don’t appreciate, I wanted to surround myself with a bit of pink and happiness at home. There are so many ugly things happening right now in the world, I think we all need a little happiness in our everyday, and pink is, after all, the color of love and hope. I hope my guests feel this positivity every time they enter our home, that they understand that we are a multi-cultural family and that our home is a happy and positive nest. And what color other than Positively Pink could illustrate that? Ok, I’m probably boring you to pieces with my long talk. Images speak volumes, right?

I absolutely, utterly LOVE our foyer now. Every time I pass by this corner to use the stairs or head toward the bathroom and laundry area, I have a smile on my face. It’s amazing what emotions color can convey, don’t you think? I like the softness of this pink, how it complements the period features of our apartment, and the striking effect of Positively Pink paired with ethnic elements like the Moroccan Boujad berber rug, found on Etsy, or my beloved Parentesi Flos lamp recently installed. And as a cherry on the cake, Inès, my talented artistic daughter, painted this vintage-style portrait for me that adds just the right amount of panache to the ensemble.

Within a few hours, my entryway was transformed from plain to stylish. The texture of the paint was creamier than regular paint, so there was no paint splatters while using the roller – even though I had added to my Home Depot paint tools shopping list a canvas drop cloth and protected my black wooden floors, just to be extra safe. I also noticed that there was no horrible smell during the paint process or the drying time, which is a definite plus for me as I don’t want to expose my loved ones to toxic paint fumes. In less than a day, our entryway was transformed radically. Ah, I tell you, the power of color!

  1. LOVE the boudoir effect, but love even more the message of hope and optimism behind it. Thank you for adding some pink to our world! Great post – also, your daughter is definitely an artist! ♡

    1. Oh, thank you @Martha! Double dose of Positively Pink your way! ;-)) Xo-

  2. Loving this pink entryway! You really put everything together so well. Also, how incredibly talented is your daughter?!

    1. Thank you @Audrey! It was so much fun to transform this ‘sad’ space. And yes, Inès is an amazing artist – she’s a keeper! ;-)

  3. I have thought about painting one of my walls for a long time and this colour is just perfect for my interior style. Thanks for this post !

    1. Yay, happy to hear, @Maja! Go for it, it’s such an uplifting color! Xo-

  4. Good morning, Si. Your entry now looks so bright and uplifting, fun. I also love the pitch-perfect decorating, which also happens to showcase that wonderful artwork by Ines. Cheers, Ardith

    1. Thank you @Ardith! I agree, Inès’s artwork makes all the difference, and I love passing by this corner and see it. Always brings a smile on my face. Such a proud mama! :)

  5. I absolutely love this. I’ve been toying with the idea of painting my hall pink for a while and this has just confirmed that it would be a great idea. It looks so happy and comforting. I want that feeling when I walk into my house.

    1. Go for it, @Jade! I’ve always been a firm believer in the power of color on our moods, but this one tops the cake! Much needed these days. Thank you for stopping by!

  6. I was immediately drawn to the color in this post but I would not have thought of using it in an entry way. It’s perfect for setting the atmosphere and brightening up a low light area. And when I read what neighborhood of San Francisco you live in it became even better (I lived in SF for nearly a decade and I still miss it). Thank you for the giveaway.

  7. Like the clean and purity of this pink. It reads as soft as well as reflecting the light of the
white painted walls. I live in a low light area (Madison, WI in winter), and am experimenting using more color and metallic design elements to brighten and illuminate
    my interior spaces.

    Thanks for the post!

    1. It’s a great idea to go dark in areas of your home that don’t have natural light, @Terry. We went with a dark gunmetal grey in a window-less hallway in our previous home in North Carolina and the result was magical. Have fun experimenting with colors! Xx-

  8. This looks great, Si! We want to repaint my daughters room and bathroom and we’ll give this paint a try! I love that you didn’t experience any splattering because I’m not the neatest painter and no odor BONUS!! You’ve motivated me????????

    1. Yay, go for it @Virginia! The texture and odor-less feature of this paint is really amazing. Have fun redecorating! Xo-

  9. It looks absolutely gorgeous! Love the carpet there too! The dark floor creates a lovely contrast with the rest of the interior.

  10. Fresh and happy shade of pink; love all the playful colors introduced in the rug. It all makes me filled with anticipation for what’s to come around the corner…

    1. We had it made by a blacksmith in Morocco when we lived there, but I believe CB2 makes a similar model (search ‘mill mini console table’). Hope this helps @Veronica! Xx-

  11. I absolutely love the color, and like that it is a bit untraditional for a hallway section, it is unique and out of the box. Have a lovely weekend!

  12. I was undecided, about painting the floor of my over garage room project black, until I saw the related posted picture. I have already purchased a pink paint similar to the pink shown on the same picture.

  13. I totally agree with you; we all could use more pink in our lives and your entryway now looks fantastic. It totally rocks!

  14. I love pink it is my favorite. It looks great! I would love to try Kombucha T18-06!

  15. This is the loveliest hallway & I love the pink paired with your daughter’s amazing portrait. I am so jealous, I think I might need to invest in a pot of pink… Thanks for the inspiration!

  16. I love the paint choice and the statement. I want to surround myself with a color that evokes happiness and just makes me feel good as I pass by it and go about my day. This definitely does that for me!
