I’ve been a long time fan of Kate
O.M.G, the patterns, the texture, and oh, the colors, make my heart sing. It’s like summer sorbets, without the calories.
I’m thinking of re-upholstering a vintage mid-century chair with one of these beautiful fabrics, I just can’t decide which one as they are all so beautiful.
* Kate Loudoun Shand is an English textile designer and a New Yorker. She grew up on a farm, earned degrees in fashion design from Saint Martins College of Art and textile design from the Royal College of Art, and moved to America in 96 to work for Calvin Klein. She has had a long history since of designing textiles and home goods which display her love for lively pattern and her keen color sense.
For her first collection of furnishing textiles, Kate has drawn inspiration from dusty, historical fabrics, strange vintage finds, and life in Bed Stuy, Brooklyn with her three kids. Hand-painted marks and motifs, and stripped-down twists on classic botanicals and stripes, are printed on strong, elegant linens. These fabrics are intended to be both irreverently beautiful and exquisitely practical, lending depth, warmth, humor, and authenticity. [* excerpts from official press release]
