La Galette des Rois

When La Boulange reached out to have us try their Galette des Rois, I just couldn’t say no. I mean, you know by now how I love food in general, but as a French girl living in San Francisco, I’ll never miss the chance for a good chocolate croissant, a baguette, or anything French when it comes to pastry. Ok, make it French food altogether in general!

So we celebrated the Kings at home earlier this week.

If you are not familiar with the Galette des Rois [King’s Cake], it’s a French tradition dating back to the middle ages, where, from the first Sunday of the month of January  [Epiphany] to pretty much end of January, you get a puff pastry with almond cream filling. Inside is a fève, or a lucky charm, secretly hidden. The cake is cut into slices and the person who finds the fève gets to be the Queen or King for the day and wear the gold crown [I was the Queen this year, *woot woot*!].

So thanks to La Boulange, this year, we felt like right at home in San Francisco with this Galette des Rois – that actually, really, truly, tastes like the ones we would get in France [si, si, really!] and it was so nice to be able to celebrate this fun French tradition [I still remember celebrating the Galette des Rois as far back as kindergarden!]

Oh, did I mention the adorable collectible charms [fèves] with San Francisco city landmarks?

  1. I am in London and I cannot find them there, and I remembered that last year I made my own! So this is it, since I am working from home, I am going to get everything this afternoon and make one too! Thank you so much for sharing these great pics!!
