20+ interiors using Pantone’s 2018 Ultra Violet

12.11.2017

The title of this post should read: “How to add the impossible Ultra Violet‘s Pantone color of the year 2018 in your home.” Seriously, when I learned a few days ago that Pantone had just announced purple – as in real purple, not orchid, nor fig, but purple – I gasped with disappointment. The new shade, called Ultra Violet, is definitely not the first one that comes to my mind when I think of adding color in my interior, and it’s not the second or third one either if you see what I mean…  Don’t get me wrong, I love the message and the symbolic behind the choice of this color for 2018 – if you haven’t yet, read more about it here – but it’s such a hard color to work with in interior design!

But you know me, I like challenges. So I went on a quest these past few days to spot Ultra Violet in French By Design approved interiors!

After much research – and making sure these interiors were not showcasing the more common orchid shade of purple, because that’d be too easy, right? – here is Ultra Violet, beautifully highlighted, in my favorite interiors and pictures.

What’s your vote on Pantone’s 2018 color of the year? I’m still very much on the fence on this one, but then again, last year, I was not convinced Greenery would work for me, yet this shade grew on me. A few of the pictures presented on this post already make me realize that I could live with a few ultra violet accessories around my home – watch me tell you next month that I’m painting my brick wall Ultra Violet! ;-) For now, I’ll take Ultra Violet in tiny, subtle dosage, like here, on this graphic rug. Do you spot Ultra Violet as well?

So what’s your verdict? Yay or nay to Ultra Violet?

I appreciate the effort but I ‘m not convinced to be honest.

Not sure I’ll ever be either, interior or fashion-wise, @Simone. Only in a fresh bouquet of flowers — for now?? ;-)

Nope! I’ll take eggplant over that ultra violet any day. But your selection of interiors is delightful.

So, Si, did that alternative Christmas tree go up over the weekend?

    Cheers and Happy Holidays, Ardith

We decided to add lots of greenery, winter leaves and branches in vases, added string lights and wreaths, and that’s it! It already feels pretty festive… So no tree this year – I couldn’t justify a tree for such a short holiday time at home. Cheers, @Ardith!

It all sounds beautiful and serene, Si. Best wishes for a very lovely holiday. Cheers, Ardith

Violet is my favorite color and it really is so beautiful in these interiors. The violet settee is to die for and I love the reds and yellows with the violet. Thanks for sharing!

I simply love this color! It looks so chic and royalesque, I think it can look amazing in any house decor. Thanks for sharing!

Love all the sofas in your post! I think ultra violet (purple) is a fabulous color that looks great with metals, wood and stone. It’s definitely not for the faint of heart…

It’s interesting to read the comments from those who are yet to be converted to Ultra Violet. We saw the same reaction when Pantone revealed their deep red & terracotta shades in earlier ‘colour of the year’ announcements. I’d say watch this space – give it 18months, and everyone will be raving about deep purple. This blog has amassed the best selection of interiors using this colour that I’ve seen so far – great job! For now, if you’re still not convinced, then you can’t go far wrong adding rich green accented with blush pink and terracotta to your interior… but be warned, you’ll fall for purple!
