A Danish home decorated for the holidays

12.13.2017

Mathilde Berg Holkenfeldt Behrendt lives with her family in this Frederiksberg apartment, decorated for the holidays like an exquisite French mansion. The couple feels inspired by old mansions in Paris and by French style in general. They are especially inspired by French architect Jean Prouvé and his simple and stylish expressions combined with natural materials. In order not to make the decor too ‘rigid’, the homeowners have painted the walls in subdued colors, like subtle greys or pale mint hues, and filled the spaces with curiosities in the form of sculptures and ceramics: “The mixture gives an expression that is neither old fashioned nor modern,” says Mathilde.

I love the traditional approach to Christmas decor and the use of greenery and lights throughout — without going overboard on the Christmas decor. It’s no secret I’m also a big fan of the velvet gift wrapping.

Do you like this home? What inspires you the most in this decor?

A big YASSSS! I just loved this one! It’s not yet another gray minimal home for a change! Loved the mix of elements like the gold gilded mirror in juxtaposition to the box frame sofa. Loved the wallpaper in the child’s bedroom, especially with that small snowy tree!!! And of course, I loved the colors of the walls. If only more people added more color in their lives…(big sigh)!

I love the barely-there palette. Whispers of color.

Oh, this is lovely, both the home and the Christmas decorations. Thanks so much for sharing it, Si. Cheers, Ardith

lovely decor, i had a little laugh of the one with the mushroom under the tree. It’s cute looks like the Nome mushroom maybe add a little Nome hidding in the tree too.
