Move over, wicker, cannage furniture [caning], is trending, and it’s trending big!

I’ve noticed a lot of caned furniture lately, in the homes I’ve been visiting for the book, or while browsing on Pinterest. Ikea even released a caned rocking chair, it should tell us all something, right? Here is a selection of caned furniture and decor elements in action. The Cesca chair by Marcel Breuer is calling my name as you can tell from my inspiration picks…

All those Breuer chairs remind me of my very first apartment.
With the summer heat ramping up, cane is such a great invention. Plus, it’s gorgeous.

Those kitchen chairs remind me of some we had years ago. Things come into style and then they go out. We need a barn nearby to store all the good stuff for when it comes back into style again ! I remember when bell bottom pants went out of style, thought they would never come back, but they sure did.

I recently put a set of 6 (4 armless & 2 with arms) at the end of my driveway with a free sign – they were gone by the end of day. I had listed them on Craigslist, but there were no offers. I guess the trend hasn’t reached my little town in CT. I am much happier with my new x back chairs.

IKEA has a similar cabinet with caning (just a basket weave, not the traditional caning style) that is a great alternative to the Urban Outfitters one – http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/30345072/

LOVE caning, I would argue it never went out of style!

I am not a wicker fan in general but love the wicker style love seat up top! I have a wicker trunk from tbe 1980’s I want to do something with. It needs TLC and something fun done with it. I want to restore and bring it to 2017. I guess I will be part of the trend I didn’t know was trending till today! Thanks!
